Busing

The Elkhorn Area School District contracts with Durham School Services to provide bus transportation to students. At the 4K and elementary school level, busing is only available to students attending their designated Attendance Center school. If you choose to send your student to a 4K Center or Elementary School outside of your designated Attendance Center, or if you are an open-enrolled family, you will be responsible for providing your own transportation.

A legal guardian or caregiver must see all 4K and Kindergarten student on-to and off-of the bus each day. No exceptions.

Students in grades K-5 living within the city have the opportunity to be bused to and from school from centralized bus stops, placed so that non student has to walk more than six blocks from home to the bus stop or school. Out-of-city stops for students will be placed, as best as possible, so that no student living outside of the city walks over one-half mile from their home driveway to the bus stop.

Middle School students (grades 6-8) living outside of the Walking Zone will be eligible for busing. Please view the Walk Zone map to determine whether or not your student qualifies for busing.

No school bus transportation will be provided for High School students living within the city limits, unless they live in an area of unusual hazard. Please view the Walk Zone map to determine whether or not your student is eligible for busing.

Questions and concerns about busing can be directed to Durham School Services, 262-723-7667.

Walk Zones
Middle School and High School students living within the city limits may not be eligible for busing, if they live within a "Walk Zone" from the Middle School or High School. Please view the Walk Zone map to determine whether or not your student qualifies for busing.

Video Cameras on Buses
The Board of Education authorizes the use of video cameras on school buses for the express purpose of maintaining order and to ensure that all students have a positive experience while riding the bus.

If you have concerns about your student's safety while riding the bus, please contact their school principal.

Change in Routine for Transportation
In the event that your student must be picked up or dropped off at a different location, please contact Durham School Services at 262-723-7667, and your student's school, to alert them of the change. Acceptable change requests include family emergencies or changes in daycare.

Other bus change requests (examples include: birthday parties, play dates, sleepovers, etc.) cannot be accommodated due to limited space on buses.
